[there was a time at the start where life and death was questionable for touya. he could've gone either way. but stubbornness runs in the family. and there were things that the young man still clung to life for. even if he's still working out what some of those actually are. from his place on the bed, eyes lingering on the screen, he can tell keigo's already fading. it's not surprise. he's been up for a long time, woken up before he got some good sleep, and for a dumb reason that could've been avoided. only to end up with a heavy conversation. touya really should let him sleep.
could just hang up. it'd be an easy swipe of his thumb. mah... nah. he'll let the conversation come to a gradual end rather than abruptly cutting keigo off. but if keigo thinks he's too dirty or terrible for touya, he's kidding himself. after everything the eldest todoroki child had done, compared to all the things that the child of a criminal had done, the difference between them is obvious. despite his dirty past and actions, hawks rejected what could've been and stubbornly rose to become a hero, never betraying his good heart even if his hands were bloody. in contrast, despite the background dabi came from, his quick fall from grace left him a hateful, sociopath villain with no remorse. the "terrible things" hawks did were nothing compared to dabi's, and touya viewed keigo as a hero through and through. just a darker one that had to get broken out of his chains to show his true shine.
is keigo a great person? ... depends entirely on who you ask.
touya remains in his bed, on his back, arms by his side, upper body propped by the raised bed, not having moved much at all since the first moment keigo turned on the phone's video screen. sleeping on his front or side is impossible for him right now. his back is the only option. but lucky for him, the man's too tired most of the time to bother trying to roll over. still... keigo looks so comfortable in his bed, so tired, it's enough to bring touya's eyes to a half-lid. though that doesn't say much, since dabi always looked tired. or bored.]
I know. [a hero gives a shit about him without having some "loyalty" or "debt" to him like his family. it's a strange idea, but one he's not adverse to anymore. as for having to deal with it, that just earns a soft breath.] I know.
[he gets what keigo wants him to do. and he can tell when someone's asleep pretty easily. you learn that skill while skulking around in the shadows. harder to do over electronics, but he's slept beside keigo enough to recognize some tells.]
All right. Good night, Keigo. [he'll stay up and guard the hero's sleep.]
